Mumbai Pune Mumbai
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Director: Satish Rajwade
Language: Marathi
Story, Screenplay: Parag Kulkarni, Satish Rajwade
Dialogues: Parag Kulkarni
Star Cast: Swapnil Joshi, Mukta Barve
Banner: Mirah Entertainments Pvt. Ltd.
We had seen endless number of comedy movies in Marathi. But not many of them will feature in romantic comedy genre. “Mumbai Pune Mumbai” is one romantic comedy everyone must see. It is nothing but good movie watching experience. The argument between Mumbaikar and Punekar are age old. Both try to better each other. We read about it in many novels many TV shows and movie. Yet it is as fresh as a blooming flower every day. We never get tired of it. We will get the same hilarious argument in this movie too between a young Mumbai girl and Puna boy.
A young modern girl played by Mukta Barve, travels alone from Mumbai to Pune just to meet her probable husband selected by her mother. While looking for address, she asks one local boy played by Swapnil Joshi, exact location of the house. These are two protagonist of the movie and these are only two characters in the movie. When the girl reaches her destination she finds the house locked. So she decides to leave and call the probable husband later saying she is not interested. On the way she meets the local Puna boy again and decides to roam around Pune for the remaining day. So during the day when they are together we find the different lifestyles of two neighboring cities. But this arguments and counter arguments somehow bring them together. So will they carry forward it into any relationship? What will happen to the probable husband? We will fund it out in a climax of the movie.
There is not a dull moment in 100 minutes movie. So Director Satish Rajwade must be commended for this. He did excellent job. As for acting Swapnil Joshi was absolutely brilliant. He was in top form. Mukta Barve did great but her accent could have been better for Mumbai born modern girl’s character, which Swapnil adapted perfectly. Technically movie had no flaws. Movie is good visual treat, great work by cinematographer. Movie is a different experiment in Marathi Cinema and was successful one. I will say it set the standard for any other romantic movie.
If I have to rate this movie I will give it 9 out of 10.

LALBAUG PAREL

Genre: Drama
Director: Mahesh Manjarekar
Language: Marathi
Star Cast: Shashank Shende, Seema Biswas, Ankush Chaudhary, Vinit Kumar, Karan Patel, Veena Jamkar, Siddharth Jadhav, Sachin Khedekar, Vinay Apate, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Satish Kaushik, Kashmira Shah, and others
LALBAUG PAREL is a movie based on Marathi play “ADHANTAR”. I had seen this play and this play was shocked me terribly. The story and acting performances by Sanjay Narvekar, Bharat Jadhav and others made me feel helpless; feel angry and I felt like crying. I could feel the anguish of the characters in my heart; I was so moved by this play. I knew the facts of mills strike and read a lot about it before watching this play; but I felt their pain only after watching this play. So I was very happy and excited as well as very circumspect before watching this movie. Will the movie able to do the justice to the brilliant play?
Film is much bigger canvas than theatre so the director Mahesh Manjarekar made some changes and obviously he won’t have made it a copy of play. He also had to make sure it will look contemporary. But I am not impressed with his casting of Narya, just because he was making this movie in Hindi also, he casted non Marathi actor. He has been given voice by Santosh Juvekar in Marathi Version. And listening to him throughout the film I wondered why he was not casted. He could have given the passion and aggression needed for the role which the other actor lacked.
The movie turned out very well but wasn’t up to the mark compared to the play. Play was lot better. Director of Mahesh Manjarekar’s caliber should have able to do lot better with it. As for acting everyone did well but Vina Jamkar and Siddharth Jadhav gave amazing performances. They stood tall out in this big cast. If I have to rate this movie I will give it 7 out of 10. This movie is also released in Hindi with the name “CITY OF GOLD”

Once Upon Time In Mumbai
Genre: Drama
Director: Milan Lutharia
Language: Hindi
Star Cast: Ajay Devgan, Imran Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai, Randeep Hooda
“Once Upon Time in Mumbai” is another underworld movie. We had already seen bunch of movies based on Mumbai’s underworld. We already had seen almost everything but still this movie is lot different than the others because of its larger than life presentation. Movie is more direct than most of the other films. Although filmmakers are presenting the Movie and its characters as fiction, we could easily make out the similarities between film characters and real life characters and situations. The character played by Ajay Devgan is based on ‘Haji Mastan’ and the character played by Imraan Hashmi is based on ‘Dawood Ibrahim’.
Watching this movie was fantastic experience. Highlight of the movie is not only the characters but also the dialogues. You could not help feel like era of famous Salim-Javed is back. Technically movie was amazing, good cinematography and editing, excellent music. All the actors played the characters brilliantly. But I loved the kid actor who played child Imraan Hashmi the most, as he set the tone of ‘Imraan Hashmi’s’ character right from the start. Above all congratulations to Milan Lutharia for binding everything together. There are no weak links in the movie; he hit the nail on its head.
I will suggest this is a Must Watch Movie, don’t miss it. If I have to rate this movie it will be 9 out of 10.
